Volodymyr Zelensky has suggested a deal with Russia to ‘end the bloodshed’ could be struck this week.
The Ukrainian president confirmed in a post on Telegram that his officials will hold talks with the US today on a draft peace plan to end the war with Russia.
The negotiations will then be followed by a virtual meeting of the so-called coalition of the willing of European nations tomorrow.
The wartime leader wrote on Telegram: ‘We are finalizing work on the 20 points of a fundamental document that could define the parameters for ending the war,and we expect to deliver this document to the United States in the near future, following our joint work with President Trump’s team and partners in Europe.’

Zelensky’s post went on: ‘We are working very productively [with the Coalition of the Willing] to guarantee future security and prevent a recurrence of Russian aggression.
‘The week may bring news for all of us and to end the bloodshed.’
The cryptic intervention came after it emerged Donald Trump warned Zelensky he had until Christmas to accept a peace deal.
The ultimatum was communicated by US peace envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff in a two-hour phone call with the Ukrainian President last week.
The US president also accused European leaders of being ‘weak’ for failing to find a peace agreement in an interview with Politico on Monday.
Zelensky said last night he was working ‘very actively’ with European allies to draft a peace proposal.
Downing Street also said the peace process was at a ‘critical moment’ after confirming that the prime minister spoke with Trump and the leaders of France and Germany about the negotiations.
The Ukrainian president said yesterday that his new peace proposals comprises 20 points – down from 28 – after some ‘obvious anti-Ukrainian points were removed’.
He said there was still no agreement on giving up territory – something that Donald Trump believes is necessary for peace but Ukraine and Europe have long resisted.
